Psychogeography, psychic projection, physical exhaustion & shame of the proletariat are all catalysts for a procession that seeks to go beyond the pavement & beyond the pain incurred on both hands & knees… An exploration in quiet discord, the purging of daemons & excess baggage, or an organised meet of the like-minded fanning the flames of dissent? Walk, crawl…DREDGE.
“Kris Canavan presents us with compelling performance art for the 21st century that exposes the sham-zero redundancy of our civil and political institutions. This is compulsive and oppositional performance art with its integrity firmly stitched to the historical legacy of our shared communal body.”
– André Stitt
Kris Canavan has been making body based artworks and actions since 2001. He is an amino associate artist who sees the use of his body as political ownership, a rejection of the status quo and subservience that is expected of us, by the state. Since graduating from UWE Bristol, alongside his solo practice, Kris Canavan has made collaborative works with Manuel Vason, Nicola Canavan, Nick Kilby, Llewyn Máire & TRANS / HUMAN amongst others.
